OVERVIEW
The MEP Consultancy Co supported the comprehensive replacement of the heating system at a secondary school in Dartford, Kent, delivering a modernised heating infrastructure designed to improve reliability and performance across the school. The project included a complete plantroom upgrade and the replacement of the heating distribution system throughout the school, including new distribution pipework and heat emitters.
BRIEF
The project brief was to replace the school’s existing heating system with a modern, efficient solution capable of providing reliable heating across the school estate. The MEP Consultancy Co provided the MEP design and technical support required to develop the replacement system, including the new plantroom arrangement, heating distribution and heat emitters. The works were programmed to minimise disruption to the school and ensure the new system could be delivered within a tight programme.
CHALLENGE
The project presented a number of challenges due to the age and configuration of the existing building and the compressed mobilisation period between appointment and commencement on site. Asbestos-containing materials affected proposed pipe routes, requiring careful consideration and coordination of alternative service routes. Maintaining a continuous hot water supply to the school throughout the installation works was also a key requirement. A further challenge was routing the new heating distribution pipework across the school’s roof, requiring careful planning and coordination to ensure the system could be installed effectively while working within the constraints of the existing building.
OUTCOME
The project was successfully completed, delivering a fully upgraded plantroom and new heating distribution system throughout the school. The new system provides improved heating infrastructure across the school, with new distribution pipework and heat emitters replacing the existing system. Through detailed design, careful coordination and consideration of the challenges presented by the existing building, The MEP Consultancy Co helped deliver a successful heating system replacement while maintaining essential services to the school throughout the works.
